Where the X Is

Here is the trade, $N, and nobody taught it to me, so listen. Open the Torn Corner from your pack and read it. The clue names a place and a bearing, never a number; the sketch shows the land with a ring drawn round it. The X is somewhere inside that ring, never in the middle of it. Walk to the place the clue names, stand where it tells you, and use your shovel. If you are wrong, you dig up sand; move a few paces and dig again, the map is not spent on a miss. If you are right, you turn up a chest. Sometimes the owner comes up with it. Open the chest and bring me the coin you find inside.
