So the letter found you, $N, and you came on your own feet. Good. I am Fenwyn Ash-Elder. Beneath every field and fen runs the Rootsong, the slow music of things growing and things rotting back into the soil, and a druid spends a whole life learning to hear it. Lately there is a wrong note in it, and it is loudest here in the marsh. Scout Maren in Fenbridge walks the reeds further and more quietly than anyone I know. Go to her and ask what she has seen out there. Then listen to the marsh.

The Elder sent you? Then she hears it too. I'm no druid, $N, but I know how a marsh is meant to go: things die, they sink, and the reeds grow up out of them. Out past the third lake that has stopped. The Gravecallers sing the drowned back up before the mud can take them, and something out on the eastern mounds is eating the fen bare. Fenwyn says a druid learns the song with a hand on the sick place. I can take you to two of them.
