So the letter found you, $N. Sit, and keep your voice low. I am Rennick Thornstride, and I keep the old law of the Pathwardens: read the sign, take the clean kill, never leave a beast to suffer. Every one of us walks a Long Trail in a lifetime, the trail of a single great beast, and I mean to put you on mine one day. First show me you can read a short one. Tanner Hesk works the Fenbridge tannery, and every hide in this marsh passes his bench. A hide tells you how its beast lived and how it died. Go and ask him what the marsh has been telling him.
