Put one down and it leaves behind an ember of fathomlight, warm even fresh out of the water. Bring me six, and mind the light does not go out before you reach me.

Six embers of fathomlight, and every one is still glowing. I am starting to think the light is not the wisp at all. I think it is something the drowned city itself still gives off, and the wisps just carry it around.
