Forty years I piloted the ferry out of this cove, $N, until the Early Gale went down under me off the shoals and I never found the nerve to build another. My hands still know knife-work, though: bring me a few chipped crab claws from the shallows so I can prove that to myself, then take that new boat of yours out to where she sank. I want to see the spot from a deck again before I decide whether I still belong on one.
