The Coil That Never Closes

Sit again, $N, and I will tell you what Neverquite actually is. Before the Book was bound, one page held an argument, the kind that circles back on itself every time it seems about to land somewhere. The author kept revising it, each draft curling one turn tighter than the last, certain that the next pass would finally reach a conclusion. It never did. The Binders read every version they could find of it and agreed on only one thing: an argument that eats its own tail was not fit to print, however beautifully it curled, so they cut it loose rather than pretend it had ended. The Ink Tide carried it here, where it is still turning, still climbing, and still nowhere near finished. The Glossator read the whole spiral of it too, more patiently than I have managed, and left their own notes at the Innermost Turn before they went looking for wherever the argument had actually been trying to go.
