The Blade With No Name on Either Side
es_dagger_cay_sagaThe Blade With No Name on Either Side
Quest · Level 60
Sit, $N, and I will tell you what Farpoint actually is. Before the Book was bound, one page held a challenge: two names, a place, a time, written under the drawing of a dagger, the kind a story uses when it means to settle something with steel instead of words. The author could never decide who deserved to hold that blade and who deserved to face it, so the page reached the Binders with the dagger drawn and both names missing. They would not print a threat with no target, so they cut it loose rather than choose for the author, and the Ink Tide carried it here, where the blade still points at a horizon with nobody standing on it. Every marshal and smith on this cay has spent a life getting ready for a fight that has no other side, $N, and I have written down every version of it without once finding the two names it needs. The Glossator read every version too, more patiently than I manage most days; they left their own dagger at the Pommel before they went looking for whoever this blade was actually meant for.

Completion
That is as near as I have gotten to the truth of it. The dagger points on the way it always does. Curlicue Reach lies south of us, or so the note guesses, a golden spiral that never quite reaches its own middle. Take your own boat there when you are ready, $N, and tell whoever keeps that spiral that Farpoint finally gave its blade a reason.
