The Sentence That Trails Off

Sit with me a while, $N, and I will tell you what Halfsaid actually is. Before the Book was bound, some scribe sat down to write a fisherman's homecoming, got three words into the goodnight kiss, and could not find a fourth. The Binders do not print half a thought, so rather than force an ending onto it they cut the page loose, and the Ink Tide carried it east until it grounded here, still trailing off. We are not unfinished by accident, $N; we are unfinished on purpose, and I have made a kind of peace with that the Glossator never quite managed. They stayed here a whole season trying to write us an ending before they understood the point was that there is not one, and they left their note out at Sightline Point before they went looking for the next leaf instead.
