The Glossator's Join

Ligature Isle was never its own letter, $N. It was the small joining stroke a scribe draws between two others so the eye reads them as one: an ae, an st, a ct, nothing on its own, everything in company. The Binders needed it exactly once, in exactly one word, and when that word was set on the final page they had no more use for the stroke that joined it. It drifted here and grew six arches, still joining one headland to the next because joining is the only shape it knows. Someone walked every arch anyway, end to end. Climb to the Linked Arch and read what they left where the last two stones meet.
