The Margin Calls: Stet
es_stet_stacks_sagaThe Margin Calls: Stet
Quest · Level 22
Every leaf drifted into the Unbound because someone struck it from the Book, $N, all except this one, which is stranger: this leaf was struck almost entirely, line by line, cliff by cliff, and then somebody wrote "stet" in the margin over what is left standing, which means let it stand, keep it, do not cut it after all. Nobody knows why these few stacks earned that mercy and the rest of the cliff did not. The gulls certainly do not care; they nested here either way. The Glossator read every struck line they could find on the Reave and left one word of their own carved beneath the oldest "stet": why. Climb down to the Reave and read it for yourself.

Completion
"Why," carved plain as anything, under a century of somebody else's second thoughts. That is the most honest thing I have read on this whole rock. The wanderer's trail bends on to Pounce Dunes next, $N, south of here in the dune country. Have Piers ring the ferry bell for you: it carries you back to the mainland docks, and the ferry masters there sail on to Pounce Dunes.
