The Margin Calls: The Blank Leaf
es_pounce_dunes_sagaThe Margin Calls: The Blank Leaf
Quest · Level 23
Pounce Dunes was never written on, $N. It was cut blank from the back of the Book, a spare leaf of prepared paper kept ready in case a scribe's hand slipped and a page needed replacing. The Binders dusted it with pounce, the fine sand that keeps ink from feathering, and set it aside, and aside, and aside again, until the Book was finished and it had never once been needed. Rather than bind an empty page into a finished story, they cut it loose, still dusted white, and let the Ink Tide carry it east. It ran aground here, and the pounce that once waited for someone else's mistake now blows across the whole isle instead. A wanderer called the Glossator dug through the dunes for three days, looking for the one grain that might have caught a stray letter, and left their note out at the High Crest when they gave up finding one.

Completion
You found where the Glossator gave up. I dug there myself once, for the same reason, before I understood: some pages are blank because nothing went wrong, not because something was lost. They went north from here, $N, toward Quire Reach, chasing a leaf that was cut for what it was, not what it wasn’t. Have Joss ring the bell for you: the ferry takes you back to the mainland docks, and the ferry masters there sail on to Quire Reach. Follow the trail, and if you find the Glossator, tell them Pounce Dunes made its peace with staying blank a long time ago.
