The Missing Keystone

Quest · Level 60

Sit here at the gap a while, $N, and look at how far the two halves still reach. This leaf was one continuous sentence, the Book's own bridge from one idea to the next, and the Binders did not cut the whole thing away. They took only the keystone, the single word that let both halves make sense together, and let the rest drift east still standing on its own two feet. Without that word the sentence can never finish, so the arch here fell exactly in the middle the day it ran aground, and it has been reaching ever since. The Glossator found the gap where the keystone used to sit and could not say what word had ever filled it. What they left is not a note guessing the word. It is a question: can an unfinished sentence still mean anything at all.

Completion

You read their question, and no, I do not think an unfinished sentence means anything on its own, and yes, I have stood at that gap for years hoping it might. The trail continues regardless, south across open water, to Cuneiform Mesas, where they say the whole ground is wedged into shapes like a script no one living can sound out. No ferry reaches that far, $N; only your own boat will carry you there, so set your course south and go. If the mesas ever finish a sentence the arch could not, come back and read it to me across the gap.
