Notes in a Stranger Hand: The Edge of the Leaf
es_gilt_edge_plateau_sagaNotes in a Stranger Hand: The Edge of the Leaf
Quest · Level 48
Gilt Edge Plateau was never meant to be a whole tableland, $N. A gilt edge is what the Binders call the last touch on a finished leaf: a thin wash of real gold along the cut, so a closed book still shows its worth from the shelf. Somewhere on this rim that last touch stopped being a finish and became a first cause, and the gold kept laying itself down long after the leaf it was meant to close was gone, until the gilding alone stood tall enough to nest eagles. The Glossator passed through and left a note at the Golden Aerie, same as every rim before this one. But the note I found there, $N, was gilded over twice, not once. Someone reached the Aerie after the Glossator and let the plateau gild their own answer in behind it, in the same hand that has been closing the distance since Manicule Mangroves.

Completion
You caught the light at the right angle and read both hands through the gold. The Glossator's note still pointed on, toward Whiteout Holm, the way it always does. The second hand had gilded only three words beneath it this time: close now, truly. Have Garrick ring the bell for you: the ferry takes you back to the mainland docks, and the ferry masters there sail on to Whiteout Holm. Do not slow down, $N. Whoever is answering the Glossator has stopped keeping their distance.
