Notes in a Stranger Hand: The Failed Stitch
es_kettlestitch_canyon_sagaNotes in a Stranger Hand: The Failed Stitch
Quest · Level 47
Every leaf in the Unbound remembers what it was for, $N, and this one remembers being torn nearly in half before it ever remembered being read. The Binders caught the tear before it finished, and stitched the two halves back together with the same rope they used for the Book's own binding, which is why the bridges here still run in even, deliberate rows. A stitch holds a tear shut, $N, it never once heals it, and the red in these walls is old rust from the needle, not the rock. The canyon still runs the whole way down to the water underneath every bridge, exactly where the tear always was. The Glossator crossed the widest span to read the deepest stitch, and someone else has since worked a second thread through it, tighter than the first.

Completion
The second thread again, pulled tighter than mine would ever dare. Under the Glossator's own knot there is now only one more: "some tears are the only proof a thing was ever whole." I do not know if that comforts me or not. Their trail bends on to Gilt Edge Plateau next, $N, north of here along the marginal isles. Have Ossian ring the ferry bell for you: it carries you back to the mainland docks, and the ferry masters there sail on to Gilt Edge Plateau.
