The Margin Calls: The Raised Cord

Every leaf that drifted into the Unbound remembers what it was before the cutting, $N, and this one remembers being a diagram. Headband Holm was never a story at all: it was a binder's working note, a cross-section of a spine drawn large enough to teach an apprentice by, every raised band labelled and numbered and explained. The Binders cut it away because a book that shows exactly how it is built stops being trusted to hold together on faith alone, and faith, more than glue, is what binds the Book together. So the ridge still stands as it was drawn, bands and all, and the wind still turns the pages nobody bound. The Glossator climbed to the Raised Cord and scratched a diagram of their own into the stone beside the old one, a note added to a note. Climb up and read what they wrote next to what was already written.
