The Chapter They Approved

Quest · Level 60
Sit again, $N, and hear the rest. This leaf was the Binders' own imprimatur, the single page that declared every other page in the Book fit to be read: a stamp of approval, and the record of every argument the Binders had about what deserved one. They could not cut it, since cutting the imprimatur would unmake their claim over everything it approved, so they sank it instead, let it drift here and harden into a mountain that keeps stamping the same seal forever, approving nothing anyone can read. The Glossator climbed every step of it in a single burning season and pressed their own imprint into the Weeping Seal, the one seal on the mountain that never fully hardens, before the heat drove them back down. Go and read what they left before it seals over again.

"Approval without a reader is just noise the mountain makes." That is the whole of the imprint, $N, still faintly warm under my hand. Below it, pressed smaller, the Glossator names Occluded Sound, a fjord roofed in cliffs further north along the apocrypha, as the next leaf on their trail. No ferry sails there from here: take your own boat north, and listen for the waterfalls before you ever see the cliffs that hide them. Come back and tell an old scholar what still falls in the dark.
