The Chapter That Went Quiet
es_occluded_sound_sagaThe Chapter That Went Quiet
Quest · Level 60
Sit again, $N, and hear the rest. This leaf held a trial, word for word, the last time the Book let a whole city speak against its own king and win. The Binders could not stand the sound of it, so rather than tear the page they smothered it, rolled it in cliff and overhang until every word of that trial went quiet, and it has been quiet ever since, however loudly the water falls beneath it. The Glossator followed the sound of the falls for a whole dark season without ever finding them, and left their own hush scratched at the Unseen Falls, the loudest quiet place on the whole shelf, before the dark turned them back. Go and listen to what they left.

Completion
"A trial that goes unheard still happened. Someone has to say so out loud." That is the whole of the hush, $N, and I have said it aloud to this fire more than once since. Below it, in a hand pressed small, the Glossator names Anathema Caldera, a black lake further east along the apocrypha that reflects nothing at all, as the next leaf on their trail. No ferry sails there from here: take your own boat east, and do not trust anything the water shows you when you arrive. Come back and tell an old keeper what looked back at you.
