Notes in a Stranger Hand: What the Sap Keeps
es_sandarac_dunes_sagaNotes in a Stranger Hand: What the Sap Keeps
Quest · Level 41
Sandarac Dunes was never meant to hold anything, $N. Sandarac sap is what the Binders themselves use to seal a finished leaf, a thin gold varnish brushed over the last line so no later hand can add to it. Somewhere on this island the sealing went wrong, or right in a way nobody intended, and the whole coast started weeping the same varnish, sealing whatever it touched: insects, ink, thread, and now pages the wind uncovers whole. The Glossator passed through and left a note at the Amber Hollow, same as every island before this one. But the note I dug free, $N, came up sealed inside two layers of sap, not one. Someone reached the hollow after the Glossator and sealed their own answer in behind it, in a hand that has been closing the distance since Manicule Mangroves.

Completion
You cracked both seals and read both hands. The Glossator's note still pointed on, toward Interlinear Mesas, the way it always does. The second hand had sealed only two words beneath it this time: right behind. Have Cole ring the bell for you: the ferry takes you back to the mainland docks, and the ferry masters there sail on to Interlinear Mesas. Do not linger here, $N. Whoever is sealing their answers into the sap alongside the Glossator's own is not far behind you now.
