The Chapter Too Large to Read

Quest · Level 60

Sit again, $N, and hear the rest. This leaf carried the reason the Binders cut the Rough Draft's last page, not the ending itself, but the confession of why they were afraid to keep it whole. They carved the confession into the stone here at a scale no reader could ever take in from the ground, runnels wider than a person is tall for every single letter, certain the truth would survive whole but never be read, since no one stands high enough above their own island to see a sentence that size. The Glossator did not read it by looking, not at first: they spent a whole gale-scoured season out here pacing the runnels stride by stride, walking every letter's width and height by hand, until they had walked out the whole confession one enormous stroke at a time and could finally say what it read without ever once seeing it as a sentence. They left their pacing here, at the plateau's high edge, before the wind finally decided they had paced enough. Go and read what walking gave them.

Completion

"A truth too large to see whole is still a truth, if someone is willing to walk its whole shape." That is the whole of the pacing, $N, walked out stride by stride by someone who could have simply flown above it and looked, except no one here has ever been able to do that. Below it, the hand trails into something that is barely handwriting anymore, smaller and smaller until it is almost a question: the Glossator does not name the next leaf the way they have every time before. They name a place they admit they have not been yet, Ogham Stacks, a maze of notched sea stacks somewhere past the last of these forbidden chapters, and confess, for the first time on this whole trail, that they no longer know if it belongs to the same story at all. Go and find out for both of you.
