Notes in a Stranger Hand: The Swash That Would Not Close
es_swash_arches_sagaNotes in a Stranger Hand: The Swash That Would Not Close
Quest · Level 35
Swash Arches was never meant to be nine separate strokes, $N. It was one long swash, a single flourish trailing off the last letter of a chapter, curling out to sea the way a scribe's hand keeps moving after the pen should have lifted. Someone lifted it anyway, mid-curl, and the stroke never finished closing. It broke into nine arches instead of one unbroken line, and the surf has been trying to finish the shape ever since, booming through each gap like a hand still reaching for the page. The Glossator passed through not long ago and left a note in the Great Arch's hollow, where the boom carries farthest. But the note I found there, $N, was already answered, in the same stranger's hand that has been shadowing the trail since Manicule Mangroves.

Completion
You read it, both hands of it. The Glossator's note still pointed on, toward Lacuna Sinks, the way it has every time. The second hand only added three words underneath: almost caught up. Have Hale ring the bell for you: the ferry takes you back to the mainland docks, and the ferry masters there sail on to Lacuna Sinks. Go quickly, $N. Whoever is writing back is closing the distance one island at a time.
