The Last Margin
es_tabula_rasa_sagaThe Last Margin
Quest · Level 60
Stand with me at the Last Margin, $N, in the middle of the one page in the whole Hundred Leaves that nobody has ever written on. Every other leaf we have found was cut from the Book for a reason we could eventually name: a missing word, a doubled letter, a mark that could not decide what it meant, but this leaf was cut for none of those reasons. It is the very last page of the Book, and the Binders will not write an ending before the story it is telling has actually finished, so they bound every other leaf and set this one aside, blank, and let it drift wherever an ending has not happened yet. I have stood over it longer than I like to admit and never once felt the pull to pick up a pen. The Glossator visited this same margin once and told me they had read every leaf in this reach twice over and had nothing left to add to this one, and for once that was not tiredness talking: it was respect. I am not going to write anything here either, $N; I am only going to tell you it is still yours to fill, whenever the story gets there.

Completion
Still yours to fill, and that may be the truest thing said to you on this whole voyage, $N. I have kept this page exactly as I found it for longer than I can properly account for, waiting to feel foolish for guarding a blank sheet, and it has not happened yet. There is nothing further east of here worth the sailing; you have reached the edge the Binders themselves chose to leave open. Whatever you make of the rest of your own story, this page will still be here after you, still blank, still waiting on you rather than on us. Sail home when you are ready, and tell whoever still keeps the Hundred Leaves chronicle on the mainland that the last page was empty on purpose.
