The Glossator's Plate
es_verdigris_springs_sagaThe Glossator's Plate
Quest · Level 39
Copperplate did not take its name from a town charter, $N. Long before Copperplate stood here, the Binders etched their marginal notes onto copper plates, so a single correction could be pressed onto a hundred copies at once without a scribe's hand ever tiring. One plate, the Glossator's own, etched itself instead of waiting on the needle, adding a fresh line to its own margin every time someone read it aloud. The Binders could not stop it correcting them, so they let it sink into the fen rather than burn it, and the fen has boiled ever since, laying fresh green crust over every plate the Glossator ever discarded. Somewhere below the deepest of the pools it is etching still, patient as verdigris, waiting on the next reader. Wade into the Verdigris Pools and see whether it still has anything to say about you.

Completion
So even a plate that never stopped correcting itself has been waiting here the whole time, more patient than any scribe I ever trained. Whoever left that mark in the crust was reading the same plate I have been avoiding my whole life. My own notes say the road from here runs north, $N, to Penknife Fjords, where cold fjord cliffs stand over the sea. Any mainland ferry master will carry you there.
